Do you fix all donated bikes?
We assess and try to refurbish every donated bike. But some bikes can’t reasonably be saved. For example. bikes with the following problems will have useful parts removed and the reminder recycled if possible:
- Major frame damage or corrosion
- Seatpost, stem, or bottom bracket seized
- Multiple serious problems, e.g. no wheels and cables corroded
- Unique size parts need replacement, e.g. cottered crank, nonstandard wheels
I have no experience fixing bikes. Can I volunteer and learn?
We would be happy to welcome you as a volunteer and help you pick up bike-fixing skills as you go.
How can I receive a bike?
At this time we send refurbished kidbikes to OCHF. OCHF in turn provides them to tenants in Ottawa Community Housing.
You can buy a used bike from re-Cycles at our shop location. Please check the re-Cycles website re-cycles.ca for details on open hours and days.
